🌱 Growth and Nature of Plant

Erand is a small shrub-type plant.

The height of this plant generally ranges from 2 to 4 meters.

• It is commonly found in wild areas, forests, and along the edges of agricultural fields.

🔹 Stem

The stem of the Erand plant is thin and tubular, with visible nodes (joints).

Its structure resembles that of a sugarcane stalk

🔹 Leaves

The leaves of the Erand plant are umbrella-shaped and appear similar to a moon-like structure.

They are attached at the center by veins.

The color of the leaves is dark green or reddish.

Ayurvedic Benefits of Castor Oil (Erand Oil)

• Erand oil is bitter, pungent, mildly sweet, and sticky in nature.

• If bowel movement is not regular, castor oil is consumed early in the morning on an empty stomach.

Taking it with warm water or plain tea helps cleanse the stomach.

• In lower back pain, backache, and other Vata disorders, massage with castor oil helps reduce Vata dosha.

• In rheumatoid arthritis (Amavata), consumption of castor oil improves appetite and reduces Vata disorders.

• Due to its sharp and penetrating properties, castor oil spreads throughout the body.

Therefore, it is widely used in Virechana (purgation therapy).

• If lumps form in different parts of the body, regular intake and external massage with castor oil helps dissolve the lumps and promotes good health.

• In cases of recurrent fever, digestive disorders, abdominal pain, and stool accumulation, continuous use of castor oil purifies the body.

• Castor oil helps enhance intelligence and memory power.

• According to Acharya Sushruta, castor oil is anti-aging, aphrodisiac, and enhances Shukra Dhatu (reproductive tissue).

• Castor oil is used in conditions like increased Pitta and burning sensation in the chest.

• Castor oil is especially consumed during Sharad (Autumn) and Vasant (Spring) seasons, when body heat and diseases tend to increase.

• After completing three days of Virechana, a light diet should be taken, such as buttermilk rice or thin gruel.
