Types of Adulasa Plant :
2. Red Adulasa
• Height: It is a shrub growing up to 1.2 to 2.5 meters. In many places, it is used for fencing.
• Stem:
The stem appears like small sticks. The main trunk is thick, and from it arise many thin branches bearing leaves and flowers.
Leaves :
Adulasa leaves are long, oval-shaped with dark green or greenish color. They look like the tip of a spear.
Flowers :
Flowers grow at the tip of the branches in overlapping clusters like stacked shells. The color is white.
Fruits :
Fruits are pointed, pod-like, and round.
Properties :
Light, dry, cooling.
Medicinal Uses of Adulasa Plant :
• Useful in raktapitta (bleeding disorders) and tuberculosis (kshay rog).
• Excess waking increases pitta in the body causing bleeding.
• In piles with bleeding, bleeding from nose/ear, or excess heat in body—Adulasa is beneficial.
• For cold, fever, cough, prepare a decoction (kadha) of Adulasa leaves and drink 3–4 times daily for 4–5 days to get relief.
• In diarrhea, skin diseases, itching, crush Adulasa leaves, extract juice, add honey and consume.
• The root of Adulasa is used in miscarriage-related issues, heatstroke (unhala), and sweat-related disorders.
• Applying crushed Adulasa leaves on skin improves complexion.
• For headache, apply leaf paste on forehead.
• Cough syrups commonly use Adulasa leaves.
• In heatstroke, jaundice, Adulasa leaves and flowers are crushed to make a decoction which is beneficial.
• Leaves and flowers juice improves blood circulation.
• In asthma, make rolls (bidi-like) of Adulasa leaves and smoke lightly—this helps thin and expel phlegm, reducing asthma symptoms.
• Mix leaf + flower juice + honey + pippli powder to make a herbal lickable mixture (chatana) useful in cold, fever, cough, phlegm.
• In tuberculosis, take two spoons of Adulasa leaf juice, mix with Yashtimadhu (licorice), and prepare one-eighth decoction—helps reduce TB symptoms.
• In jaundice and raktapitta, mix leaf juice with two spoons honey + 50 g sugar and drink for relief.
• The root bark juice mixed with honey reduces raktapitta.
• In arthritis, apply leaf paste on painful joints for relief.
• In skin infections, itching, scabies, apply leaf paste mixed with turmeric (ambahaldi).
Bathing with water boiled with Adulasa leaves helps reduce scabies.
• Taking leaf juice + honey daily for one month removes excess phlegm.
• It is anthelmintic (kills stomach worms).
Useful in diarrhea—leaf juice and decoction beneficial.
• For dry cough, warm the leaves, extract juice, mix with honey and consume.
• In urinary retention, take leaf juice for 7–8 days to regulate urination.
• In malaria, inhaling smoke of Adulasa leaves and betel leaves gives relief.
How to consume Adulasa Plant?
• Decoction, paste, and juice—all methods are beneficial.
• For decoction, use fully matured yellow leaves.
• Decoction preparation:
Adulasa leaves + ginger + tulsi leaves + bitter melon (karle) + black pepper + turmeric + cinnamon
Boil all ingredients in water to prepare the kadha.
• Herbal mixture (chatana):
Warm leaves, extract juice from leaves and flowers, mix honey and pippli powder and consume.
