Plant Structure:

 This is a shrub-type plant and is found throughout India. It commonly grows near rivers and streams.

• Height: 

Generally, this plant grows about 5 to 6 meters tall.

• Leaves: 

The leaves of this tree are similar to those of the Dhaman tree. They are broad, green in color, and medium in size.

• Flowers: 

The flowers are yellow in color with a slight reddish tinge and have a light cap-like structure at the lower side.

• Fruits: 

The plant bears screw-shaped twisted pods. They appear like a rope that has been twisted. These pods contain seeds, which help in reproduction.

• Medicinal Use:

 The leaves, bark, and pods of this plant are used in medicine.

• Nutrients Present in Pods and Other Parts:

Iron, carbohydrates, protein, phosphorus, calcium, and cellulose are present.

Medicinal Uses of Murudsheng (Marudphali):

• It is used in herbal tonics (ghutti) given to small children.

• In case of intestinal worms, stomach pain, or colic, taking one teaspoon of Murudsheng powder provides relief. It helps kill intestinal worms and expel them through stool.

• If there is excess body heat, constipation, or piles, taking one teaspoon of Murudsheng powder in the morning on an empty stomach and at night after meals helps in bowel movement and relieves piles. Applying its powder near the anal area reduces irritation.

• For ear pain, crush half a teaspoon of Murudsheng seeds and boil them in 3–4 teaspoons of coconut oil. After cooling, put 2 drops into the ear.

Alternatively, extract juice from the leaves and use a few drops in the ear for relief.

• In case of stomach cramps and frequent loose motions, take one-fourth teaspoon of Murudsheng powder with water for benefit.

• In children, if there are excessive worms, symptoms like excessive salivation, irritability, and sudden waking occur. In such cases, crush one pod, boil it in water, and give the decoction to the child. Worms get eliminated through stool and the child gets relief.

• For diarrhea, take 2 grams of Murudsheng powder and 2 grams of Indrajav powder with water to stop loose motions.

• For indigestion and gas, take 2–3 grams of Murudsheng powder with a pinch of rock salt for relief.

• For wounds, boils, or skin eruptions, crush the tender leaves and apply them to the affected area to help healing.

• To reduce fever, take 1 gram of Murudsheng and 1 gram of bitter Chirayata together.

• For skin diseases like ringworm, itching, and eczema, apply crushed leaves on the affected area.

• In diabetes, taking half a teaspoon of Murudsheng powder before meals helps control post-meal blood sugar levels. Decoction of bark and roots is also beneficial.

• After childbirth, regular intake of Murudsheng powder helps increase blood and calcium levels in women.
